Roland Boatner Howell, Jr., 78, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at his country home in Centreville, Miss. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, La. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with interment in the church cemetery. Father Stephen Holmgren, Rev. John Sennett and Rt. Rev. Robert C. Witcher will be officiating.

He attended schools in Thibodaux and Baton Rouge and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. He earned BA and LLD degrees from LSU and practiced law in Baton Rouge for many years. He served four years in the Air Force 51st Fighter Interceptor Group. During that time, he flew 100 F-86 combat missions in Korea and was awarded the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster. He was an alumnus of Zeta Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Moosehead Lake Yacht Club, Baton Rouge Country Club, and the Boston Club.

A lifelong Episcopalian, he held various positions over the years and served on the board of trustees of All Saints Episcopal School and a term as its chairman.

He was preceded in death by parents, Roland Boatner and Williemel Durio Howell.

Survivors include his wife, Daisye Lee Hawkins Howell of Centreville; sons, Roland Boatner Howell, III, Zed Hawkins Howell and Clifford Poindexter Howell; brother, William Evans Howell; and 6 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William H. Brown, James R. Douglas, James R. Clary, Peyton Parker, Zed Hayes Howell and Hardy Poindexter Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Row, J.. King Woolf, Martin Schroeder, Richard Newell Graham, John S. Poindexter, Hardy Poindexter Graham, Jr., Richard James and the Felicianians.

The family requests that memorials can be made to Community Hospice of America or Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 28, St. Francisville, LA 70775.
