LUCAS: DOROTHY ANN "DOT" SPAYDE, 88, of Lucas, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 in Grant Medical Center.

She was born November 20, 1927 in Mansfield, to Peter and Elizabeth (Ludwig) Reiner, and in 1945 graduated from Springfield Township High School in Ontario.

On March 19, 1949 she married Jack E. Spayde.

Dorothy graduated from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She worked at Peoples Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

Dot was a member of the Mansfield General Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and was an active volunteer with cub scouts for 30 years.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and never missed their sporting events.

She is survived by three children, Tami (Bill) Backensto of Lucas, Blake Spayde & Kathy Edwards of Mansfield, and Tracey (Michael) Oswalt of Fredericktown; daughter-in-law Paula Spayde of Lucas; son-in-law Charlie Scott of Perrysville; grandchildren Shana (Josh) Keller, Luke (Kristie) Spayde, Marc Speakman, Brad (Marni) Backensto, Brooke (Jeremy) Blackburn, Lindsey (Josh) Hammon, Drew Spayde, Megan & Zach Edwards, Stewart (Natalie) Oswalt, BreAnna and Vanessa Oswalt, Trevor Scott and Logan (K.J.) Scott; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Peter James (Jane) Reiner of Lexington; sister-in-law Nancy Reiner of Illinois; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Spayde, infant daughter Karen Spayde, daughter Tecca Jo Scott, sons Bryan and Brent Spayde, grandson Trenton Scott and brother K. Michael Reiner.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 2, 2016 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home, Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. Her grandson the Rev. Stewart Oswalt will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Monroe Township Rescue Squad or Ronald McDonald House may be made at the funeral home.
