OBITUARY

ANDREW JACKSON CHURCH

Andrew Jackson Church was born in Buffalo, New York on March 15, 1842. When a boy ten years of age, he moved with his parents to Eugene, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 22 years, he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Burg, on October 7, 1869, at Covington, Indiana. To this union were born four sons and one daughter. They moved to Dade County, Missour and settled on a farm near Ash Grove, on October 31, 1869. In December, 1879 he moved to Kansas, and settled on a farm on the Military Road north of Crestline in Cherokee County. In 1910 he retired from active service and moved to Carl Junction, Missouri, where he lived until April, 1916. He moved to Lawton, Kansas to be near his children in his declining years. He departed from this life on Monday morning, November 23, 1925, aged 83 years, 7 months and 8 days. He is survived by his aged wife and three sons and one daughter, John of Columbus, Kansas, William of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Mabel Merrick and Raymond of Lawton, Kansas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one son, Andrew Jr having passed away on November 18, 1893 at the age of 19 years. He was a good honest honorable citizen and died as he had lived very quiet and peaceful. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Alphon Goodrick of Miami, Oklahoma. He was laid to rest in the old Pleasant View cemetery. The funeral was largely attended a giving evidence of the high esteem in which he was held. --Columbus Daily Advocate, Wednesday, December 9, 1925, p3, c3. Also, an obituary appeared in the Modern Light , Thursday, November 26, 1925, pp1c2 titled DEATH OF PIONEER RESIDENT, Father of John Church Dies at Lawton. Another obituary appeared in The Modern Light, Thursday, December 31, 1925, p9 c-5-6 along with a notice "Card of Thanks" from the members of the Church family on the same page.

Never attended school but learned to read and write as a young man... although was interested in school affairs..
He was in Canada during the Civil War and was unable to serve as a Soldier.
