"Lige" was born to William Joseph Allen and Elizabeth "Betsy" McCartney Allen. He married Margaret Jane "Maggie" Russell, daughter of Jason and Hannah Russell.

Elijah ALLEN was born in Washington Co IN June 25, 1844 and passed away Nov 11, 1926 age 82 years, 14 months and 16 days. He was united in marriage to Margaret J Russel May 15, 1871 and to this union were born two children, a daughter Ola, the wife of Randolph Godker who preceded her father to the great beyond June 11, 1916 and a son Harvie Allen of Niantic, IL. He leaves to mourn his departure an aged companion, son, six grandchildren, Verlin Godker of Salem who always lived with his grandfather and cared for him. Mrs. Artie Baker of New Albany. Mrs. Edith Long, Mr. Warren Godker. Mr. Altis Godker and Mrs. Lee Godker all of Illinois.

There also survive Mrs. Andrew McLemore of Illinois, a niece which he reared and who came and care for him in his last days of illness, several other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from Olive Branch Church, Satruday November 12, 1926 by Rev Wm R Seat. Interment was in the cemetery adjoining.

There is no stone for Elijah. There was a marker placed at his grave at Olive Branch Cemetery.
