William served as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier on a B-24E #41-29072, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hampden County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 18, 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Manager and also as Single, without dependents.

William was killed in a bomber crash at Cheyenne Mountain, south west of Colorado Springs, Colorado during the war. The cause of the crash was believed to have been caused by the pilot stunting for his sister who was staying at the Broadmoor Hotel. The sister witnessed the crash.

His death was listed as a "Line Of Duty" related incident.
