In his obituary, Edgar's middle name is misspelled. He signed Edgar Pierce Alford on his WWI Draft Registration Card. He is probably named after his grandfather, Pierce Lewis Alford.

E.P. ALFORD DIES HERE WEDNESDAY

Edgar Pearce [sic] Alford, 508 Eleventh Street, died at his home yesterday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock after an illness of the past three weeks.

He was born December 24, 1876, the son of the late W.J. and Nannie Herring Alford, and has made his home in this community for the past 22 years, having moved here from Upson county, Georgia.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. W.J. [Warren Jackson] Alford of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Gurley and Mrs. Grace Schulte, both of Columbus; three sons, J.H., S.M. [Edgar's brothers], and E.H. [Emmett H.] Alford all of Columbus; four sisters, Mrs. J.F. Kelley [Nettie, Mrs. John Frank], and Mrs. J.E. Minter [Agnes, Mrs. John Edgar], both of Columbus, Mrs. J.B. Allen [Pearl, Mrs. Joseph Bradford] and Miss Lucy Alford, both of Atlanta, as well as several nieces and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the First avenue chapel of Britton and Dobbs this afternoon at 4 o'clock with Rev. H.G. Shearhouse, pastor of the East Highland Methodist church officiating. Interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers: H.B. Harper, James Land, E.A. Fuller, George B. Phillips, Carman Haines and C.E. Phillips.
