Obituary published Minnesota, June 28, 1900.
SAMUEL O. VORDALE died at his home in this village, Monday evening, June 25, 1900 at 10:30 o'clock from consumption, aged forty-three years, one month and eight days.
Mr. Vordale was born in Halmedahl (Holmedal), Norway on May 17, 1857 and came to America in 1881. In his native land he acquired an education and after coming to this country soon familiarized himself with the English language and became a leading teacher in the public schools. He was a man of unusual energy, public spirited and intensely patriotic. His devotion to duty and habitual disposition to overwork no doubt aided in weakening his condition and making him an easy prey to the fateful disease.
Mr. Vordale spent most of his time teaching in the public and parochial schools of Fillmore and Houston counties and the wide acquaintance thus formed brings to his burial an unusual number of mourners. He was taken sick about one year ago, but continued teaching despite his ill health.
Deceased leaves his wife, seven children, the oldest of whom is about seventeen years old. The sorrowing family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
The funeral services will be conducted at the N.E.L. church here (Preston) on Thursday, June 28 at 2 o'clock p.m. with Rev. Nelson officiating.
