She was a native of Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late George Robert Sr. and Grace Mae Phillips Abernethy, wife of the late Lorenzo L. Durham Sr., Claude P. Bynum and Albert Bridges, graduate of Wake Forest University and Meredith College where she received her teaching credentials, taught at Halls High School, Sampson County, Sharon School, Oakhurst School, Charlotte; after retirement was a substitute teacher in Lincolnton, member of North Carolina State Teacher’s Association, Alexis Baptist Church, former member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte
SURVIVORS: Son, Lorenzo L. Durham Jr., the home; stepdaughter, Carolyn Bynum Alexander, Hamlet; brothers and sisters-in-law, G.R. and Virginia Abernethy, Mt.
