John was the son of William & Cornelia (Totten) Journeay. He married Mary Elizabeth Androvette on 11 Dec. 1889 in Westfield, Staten Island, New York. John and family were living on Bentley St. in Tottenville in 1900. John was a policeman associated with the old 66th precinct on Broad Street in Stapleton, Staten Island. At the time of his retirement more than ten years prior to his death, he was an inspector on the Richmond Health Squad. He was a Republican, a former member of the Richmond Temple, Knights of Pythias, of Tottenville and attended St. Paul's Church.
