Phyllis M. Rinehart, 91, of South Hutchinson, died May 6, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born in rural Reno County near her church, on March 15, 1925, to Willis and Ethel (Geist) Alber.

Phyllis graduated from Plevna High School and attended Hutchinson Junior College, as well as Adela Hale Business School. She was the personal secretary of Adela Hale until she met and married her husband. Phyllis married Howard R. Rinehart on May 6, 1944, in Hutchinson, while he was stationed at the Naval Air Base near Yoder. After Howard’s discharge, they purchased the Huntsville Station and provided much needed services to the community. They later moved to Satanta for several years before moving back to the Huntsville/Plevna community. They farmed and raised livestock until Howard’s death in 1989. Phyllis was a homemaker and actively farmed along with Howard.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Sterling Evangelical Bible Church. She served on the hospitality committee, as well as Ladies’ Aid. God’s work had always been a big part of her life. She had a servant’s heart.

She enjoyed sewing and made quilts for each of her grandchildren. Phyllis was an active volunteer for the Et Cetera Shop and was very talented in weaving rugs. She enjoyed traveling and watching KU basketball and the KC Royals. She served as a 4-H leader.

Phyllis was preceded in death by: her husband; parents; and an infant brother, Willis Alber Jr.

She is survived by: sons, Gary Rinehart of Park City, Randy (Kathleen) Rinehart of Hutchinson, Tim Rinehart of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Ann (Mike) Davidson of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Brian (Kim) Rinehart of Plevna, Jennifer Espinoza of Florissant, Mo., Kristi (Dwight) Roper of South Hutchinson, Amy (BJ) Erickson of Westminster, Colo., Aaron (Jennifer) Campbell of Houston, Texas, Michelle (Matt) Walker of Spring, Texas, Megan, Gabrielle and Rachael Rinehart of Haven; great-grandchildren, Gatlin and Statler Rinehart, Kassidy and Kiley Espinoza, Arie, Darby, and Reese Roper, Campbell and Maverick Erickson, Caitlyn Campbell, Samantha, Abbey, Ethan and Bryce Walker; sister, Loretta Prichard of South Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Doug (Anita) Rinehart of Gonzales, Texas; and sister-in-law, Frances Rinehart of Lubbock, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, 3017 N. Sterling Road, rural Sterling, with Pastor Phil Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
