Reuben Bowman was born 06 August 1841 in Ohio. He was the son of John Bowman, mother unknow at this time. John was born 13 May 1808 in Grosvillars, Maulborn, Wurttenburg, Germany.
Died 08 March 1885 in Roann, Walbash County, Indiana. Reuben was married to Susan Berg.

According to an excerpt from the book "The David Berg Families" by Ruth Berg Kirchner, she mentioned an excerpt from "The Hoffee Family History"; Reuben's mother died when the children were young, and all of them except Reuben and and his brother John were parceled out in other homes to be raised. Reuben's father brought him and his brother John to Illinois. Later his father and brother John died in an epidemic. Rueben went to work for George Best for his clothes, food and lodging until age 21 when he was given a suit of clothing and a horse. Rueben and Susan were married soon after he returned from the Civil War.
