He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1960 through 1964 during the Vietnam war.
Lou was a Joliet Police Officer for 35 years and served as an evidence technician for a large majority of his tenure.
Following his retirement, Lou and Marge opened the Lazy Dog Hotdog & Ice Cream Stand in Elwood.
Lou enjoyed coaching baseball at Goltz Field and softball at JSA and Joliet Central High School. His favorite past times were cooking, fishing, watching the Cubs and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Lou is survived by one son, Damian (Patty) Bolognani; three daughters, Danielle (Don) Karcz, Jr., Nicole (John) Stearns and Angela Smith all of Joliet. Ten grandchildren, Eric, Anthony, Brenna and Jianna Bolognani, Donald III and Justin Karcz, Jessica Schoen, Adrian Bolognani, Trenton and Frankie Smith. Three great-grandchildren, Santino, Angliana and Angelo. His brother, Domenic Bolognani; and his sister, Michele (Timothy) Kirchner. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret 'Marge' A. Bolognani; his parents, Louis A. Bolognani, Sr. and Margaret M. Bolognani; and his brother, Adrian Bolognani.
Visitation: Monday, May 9, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral service: Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Jude Catholic Church for 10:00 a.m. mass.
Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
