Leslie Walter Brooks, 87, of Yakima, went peacefully to be with his Lord, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Cottage in the Meadow surrounded by his loving family.

Leslie was born July 13, 1928 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of George Harry Frye and Myrtle May (Ames) Brooks. He was raised in El Paso, Texas by Christian parents. Leslie served in U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge, he married the love of his life, Lois Annette Williams. He loved music and playing his cornet. In his early life he played in jazz bands. After he became a pastor in The Salvation Army, that same love for music allowed him to continue playing that same cornet for the Lord. He was a pastor for The Salvation Army where he served for over 30 years. In addition to loving the Lord and The Salvation Army, Leslie enjoyed spending time with his family he loved so much. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy (Maynard) Sargent of Yakima, a son, Mark (Heather) Sargent of Reno, NV and daughter of his heart, Patti Bradley of San Pedro, CA; seven grandchildren, Chuck (Lisa), Steve (Joanne), Brandie (Jim), Keith, Heather, Justin (Jessica), Jared and Molly; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and a sister, Myrtle Bloomberg of Ogema, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Brooks in 2011, son Rick Brooks, two grandchildren and five brothers.

A Celebration of Leslie’s life will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 310 N. 16th Avenue, Yakima. Private family interment will be in Tahoma Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, Yakima, c/o Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936.
