Harriet Lucretia Bates was born on 13 October 1856 in Buffalo New York to William Henry Bates (1824-1886) and Rhoda Amanda Millington (1828-1897). She had 5 siblings.

Emma Josephine Bates (1850-1937)
Edward Henry Bates (1851-1937)
George W. Bates (1854-1925)
Clara Cornelia Bates (1859-1911)
Ellsworth Deloss Bates (1865-1947)

On the 25 July 1856 in Fairbault Minnesota she married Orrin Hubbard (1853-1890). That union would produce at least 5 children.

Vera Hubbard (1877-?)
Zeta Lucretia Hubbard (1879-1925)
Hubbard Infant (1882)
Merle Harriet Hubbard (1887-1968)
Jay Orrin Hubbard (1889-1980)

In 1890 her husband Orrin died from a kick to the head by a horse, Hattie was left a young widow with four living children. On the 13 October 1891 Hattie married a 20 year old Jesse Spaulding Hanson (1871-1921) in Mason City. Jesse immediately took to his instant family. Hattie being 16 years older than Jesse makes for an interesting story. I will have to ask them about that detail in the next life. The family lived in Clear Lake. Jesse was a land developer. This union would produce 3 children.

Clifford Benjamin Hanson (1893-1961)
Lois Hanson (1895-1896)
Dorothy Eleanor Hanson (1897-1979)

I have not been able to find an exact date of death but the local paper wrote in an interview with Jesse about their family in Clear Lake, in 1911 states that she died in the fall of 1903. Hattie died from what we believe was Pernicious Anemia. Her daughter Zeta also died from this and many of the women have died early from it.
