Leonidas was the son of David Parker, Jr. (1800-1885) and Elizabeth [maiden name unknown] (1803-1875). His siblings were Alexander (1822–1905), Rosannah "Rosa" (1828–1890), James (b.1829), William A. S. (b.1833), Elizabeth Jane (1842–1925), and Mary Ann (1845–1924).

He married Lucy Jane Talley on 26 February 1857 in Newton County, Georgia. From this union they had the following children: William H. "Bill" (1858–1935), Robert Lindsey "Bob" (1859–1946), James Elijah "Jim" (1861–1923), Leroy (b.1866), Henry F. (1868–1886), Mary L. (b.1869), David McCluskey "Mack" (1870–1955), Thomas Morgan "Tom" (1871–1952), Gertrude Jane "Trudy" (1877–1968), Samuel Cumbie "Sam" (1880–1969), and Jack Irving (1883–1956)

Enlisted May 12, 1862 at Chambers County, Alabama in Company C, Hilliard's Legion, Alabama First Battalion. He served in the Legion until it was reorganized at Charleston, Tennessee into the 59th and 60th Alabama Infantry Regiments and the 23rd Battalion of Alabama Sharpshooters.

Parker was assigned to Co. K, 60th Alabama Infantry. He was in the Battle of Chickamauga, the Battle of Bean Station, and the Battle of Drewry's Bluff. He was also in the Petersburg Campaign, which included the battles of Hatcher's Run and White Oak Road. He was wounded slightly when a minie ball grazed his nose and upper lip at Petersburg. He was captured while walking along the Southside Railroad on 2 April 1865 and sent to Hart Island Prison, Long Island Sound, New York.

He took the Oath of Allegiance on June 15, 1865 at Hart's Island, New York and eventually made his way home to Chambers County, Alabama. Leonidas died on 27 January 1919 in Elmore County, Alabama.
