J Hardy Foshee was born to Alexander H Foshee and his wife Evalina Merrell Foshee. He first married Mahala Caperton in 1872. They had two daughters and a son, Ida Foshee Pepper (1872-1945), Alice Foshee Cheek (1875-1923) and John Burnett Foshee (1877-1946). Mahala died in 1878 after which he was a widower for many years. He remarried Emma Virginia Sellers about 1900. They had a daughter and two sons: Paralee Foshee Bunch (1901-1992), Ross Bertrand Foshee (1906-1996) and Raymond Elijah (1909-1994). Hardy died of the 'dropsy' in 1914.
