Charles was born in Charleston, SC on June 1, 1931, the son of the late Charles Hazel Nicholson, Sr. and the late Jenny Galloway Nicholson Ogier. Charles was born in Charleston and raised in Ritter, SC. His fondest memories lie in this hidden lowcountry community. He enlisted in the United States Army at age 17 and spent a little over 3 years in Germany in the First Division Signal Corps. After serving his country, Charles was led into a life of ministry, faithfully serving the Lord for over 60 years. Before developing Alzheimer’s disease, Charles was an avid reader who studied the Bible, worked crossword puzzles daily, followed the Atlanta Braves baseball team tirelessly, and was always quick-witted. His family rejoices knowing that his physical ailments have been healed and he is at peace.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Sanders Nicholson of Hartsville, SC; sons, Charles Hazel Nicholson, III of Greenville, SC, Phillip Douglas (Donna) Nicholson of James Island, SC, Herbert Angus (Kristen) Nicholson of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Reba McKenzie (Frank) Parks of Blythwood, SC, Elizabeth Nicholson Hust of Irmo, SC; brother, John Francis (Fran) Nicholson of Fancy Gap, VA; sister, Jeannette Nicholson (Wyatt) Crawford of Hilliard, FL; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Oscar Nicholson; and half-sister, Diane Ogier (Johnny) Bates.
