She was born March 21, 1936, in Texarkana, Arkansas. She moved with her family to Westwood, California, before moving to Cottonwood in 1953. She graduated from Anderson Union High School in 1954. It was in Cottonwood that she met Merrill Spoon, as neighbors, and the two were married April 8, 1955, in Anderson, California. They made their home at the end of Spoon Lane, where they resided for 61 years and raised three children.
She is survived by her husband, Merrill Spoon; son, John Spoon; daughters, Janet Spoon and Lisa Bridge; sister, Janie Spoon; brothers, Jerry Paul Watkins and Dale Keith Watkins. Ouida Jean had eight granddaughters, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Hubert Watkins and Leda Mae Watkins; brothers, Bobby Hugh Watkins and Jimmy Wayne Watkins; granddaughter, Stacey Bridge; great-grandson, Jaydan McCollam; and daughter-in-law, Arnett Spoon.
Jean Spoon was best known for her generosity, hospitality, and service to others. She was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ, Sunday school teacher and Awana Club Leader for many years.
