Joan F. Sweeney, 80, passed away May 9, 2016 in Baystate Medical Center. She was born Oct. 8, 1935 to the late John and Florence O’Connor. Joan attended the former Sacred Heart School. She worked at New England Telephone before going to work as a para-professional in the Carew St., and Sumner Ave. schools. She enjoyed playing cards and was a lifetime member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years, Joseph Sweeney on June 16, 2003. Joan leaves her loving children Patricia (Gary) Buendo of Agawam, Theresa (Leonard) Bozek of Spfld and Robert (Joseph) Sweeney of CA., her 6 grandchildren; Jennifer Buendo, Marie Parrelli, Angela Tirone, Michael Bozek, Connor Sweeney and Philip Harvey, and her 5 great grandchildren; Kristofer, Anthony, Braden, Sophia and Joseph. The family would like to thank Dr. James Stewart and the nurses from the Springfield Building 3rd Floor for the care and compassion they gave to Joan. Per Joan’s wishes, she decided to have a private viewing for her immediate family. She did wish to invite other Family and Friends to attend Committal Prayers MONDAY 1PM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
