Bernie C. Powell, 94, of Hannibal, Missouri, formerly of Palmyra passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2016 at the Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal. Bernie was born May 2, 1922 in Steffenville, Missouri to William B. and Della F. Bowman Powell. Bernie was married to Grace Irene Powell February 15, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri. She preceded him in death December 30, 2015. Survivors include:son, Richard (Barbara) Powell of Hannibal; daughter, Betty Lou (Robert) Krigbaum of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren: Gary Krigbaum of North Carolina; Brian (Connie) Krigbaum of Hannibal; Richard (Kim) Powell of Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; Richella (Michael) Pipkin of Hannibal; great grandchildren: Caylyn Powell of Dardeene Prairie; Alayna Pipkin of Hannibal; Kristin Pipkin of Hannibal; Brandon Krigbaum of Hannibal; Kris, Josh, Sarah, Jordan, Sam and Maxwell Krigbaum of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by wife; parents; brothers, Joy and Arnold powell; an infant granddaughter, Melissa Powell; and a great grandson, Zach Krigbaum. Bernie was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving in the infantry. Mr. Powell retired from Bleigh Construction in Hannibal. He had formerly worked for Marion County Milling Company. His working career involved management as well as serving as as realtor. He was a member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 in Hannibal and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrinners in Palmyra. Bernie was a small aircraft pilot who loved to fly, enjoyed time with his wife at the Lake of the Ozarks, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church in Hannibal. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Missouri. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. Monday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospitals For Children.
