Bernice Lenore Abbott 80, of Indianapolis passed away Monday, May 29, 2006. She was born December 10, 1925 in Indianapolis to the late Edwin J. and Ruth L. Kolb Kendall. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold M. Abbott, brothers: Edwin (Barbara) Kendall of Rushville, IN and Victor (Louise) Kendall also of Rushville, IN; and 10 nieces and nephews. Bernice graduated from Ben Davis High School, Purdue University, and received her master's degree from Indiana University. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority while at Purdue. She was also a member of Speedway Christian Church and a 4-H leader for many years. Her teaching career began in 1947 at Avon High School. In 1955 she changed to Decatur Junior High School where she taught home economics for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Bernice made over 100 costumes for the school's historical pageants. For her dedication in the classroom and other activities at the school Bernice received the Decatur Middle School "Wall of Fame" award in 1999. In 1987 she and her husband joined the Hoosier Mini Mizers and became well known for their dollhouse miniatures. They received many awards in competitions. Most of their creations have been donated to The Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel. She and her husband as volunteers at the museum were awarded a STAR Certificate of Excellence by the Hamilton County Conventions and Visitors Bureau. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Speedway. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2006 at the funeral center. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel or to Speedway Christian Church. www.flannerbuchanan.com
