OBITUARY

Paul I. Crowdus, of Lexington, husband of Dorothy H. Crowdus, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002. A native of Lebanon, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jennings and Irene Crowdus. He is survived by a daughter, Christy Crowdus, Lexington, and a sister, Lucy (Mrs. Clay Thomas) Pearl, Lebanon and Mrs. Pearl's children who are Beverly (Mrs. Thomas)Harmon, of Lebanon and Charles Pearl (and his wife Karen) of Frankfort. Mr. Crowdus attended Western Kentucky State College, Princeton University and was graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1948 with a degree in journalism where he was Phi Beta Kappa.

He immediately began employment with UK in the Department of Public Relations. From 1951 to 1962, he co-owned and published The Lebanon Enterprise in his hometown. Then he returned to UK where he remained until his retirement.

A staff sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II in a heavy weapons company, he served in the European Theater with General Allen's 104th "Timberwolf" Infantry Division which was famous for its night fighting prowess and held the World War II record for continuous days in combat. He was awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third highest medal, for gallantry in action on February 26, 1945

Visitation for Mr. Crowdus will be at Milward's on Southland Drive from 2:00 until 4:00 today. The funeral service will be at Faith Lutheran Church at 3:00 P. M. Sunday. Further visitation will be at Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Monday. Burial in Ryder Cemetery will follow immediately.

Casket bearers will be William H. Johnson, Mrs. William H. Johnson, Paul Owens, Thomas Harmon, Kevin Pearl, and Kennedy Pearl. Honorary bearers will be Wesley Daugherty, Louis Hamilton, Joe Buster, Robert Benningfield, Dr.William P. Duley, Kenneth Witherspoon, Glenwood Creech, Thomas D. Duncan, and Oliver Clay Maupin.

Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Lebanon Baptist Church, Hospice of the Bluegrass, and HOME AT LAST (animal shelter), P. 0. Box 144, Salvisa, KY 40372.
