Caleb was the son of Joseph Whipple (1737-1818) and Katherine (Greene) Whipple (1740-1812).
The Revolutionary War pension application of Caleb Whipple completed in June 1834 provides detail to his moves throughout his life.
On page 1 of his application Caleb Whipple states that he was born in Coventry, Kent, Rhode Island on 23d July 1764 and that he last saw the record of his birth in the family bible owned by his father in Rutland, VT about 16 years before (ca 1818). He says that he removed to Plainfield, Windham, CT when he was about 13 years old (which would be circa 1777).
On the last page of his application, he says that around the time of the close of "Shay"s rebellion" (1786-1787) he "removed with father"s family to Cheshire• in the state of Massachusetts where he remained for about 10 years. Then they moved to Rutland, VT. He remained there until about 1814 when he moved to Utica, NY and in March 1829 moved to Mexico, Oswego Co., NY where he was applying for the pension.
