lizabeth Menk Agles, age 77, of Edwardsville, died at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born on April 4, 1928, in Edwardsville, at the home built by her father, the late Ellsworth Menk and Anna Adamick Menk.

She married Edward Agles in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1992.

She is survived by a daughter: Deborah Sporik of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son: Dennis Agles of Highland; three grandchildren: Chelsea Agles, and Sarah and Carissa Sporik; a brother: Ellsworth Menk Jr. of Houston, Texas; and a sister, E. Marie Menk Bartlett of Houston, Texas.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister: Elsie Vieregge.

Mrs. Agles attended St. Boniface Grade School and Edwardsville High School. She was employed as the administrator of Madison County Nursing Home (Shelter Care Home) from 1959 to 1987. She was an avid cook and loved to quilt, frequently donating the items she designed and made.

Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13, at St. Boniface Church.

A luncheon and celebration of life will be conducted for the family and close personal friends following the services.

Per the family's request, her remains were cremated through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton.

Spreading of ashes will be conducted at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Madison County Shelter Care Home, to be used for special projects that honor her service to that facility.
