GOULDSBORO – Beverly Jean Colson, 63, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2016, surrounded by her family at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, ME. She was born on October 20, 1952 in Steuben, ME the daughter of the late Donald and Verna Hayward.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband Michael of 44 years; daughter, Crystal of Gouldsboro; son, Christopher and his and wife Laurie of Santa Maria California; brother, Jim and Maxine Cuppett of Lebanon CT; sister, Sharon (Hayward) & Elwood Washington of Hampton Virginia; brother, Bob Hawyard of Stow ME, her Uncle Dicky Dugay and Aunt Juanita both from Cherryfield. She also is survived by close relatives of Michael’s family, Chuck and Patty Colson, Jackie Foss, Jeanne Weeks and Wesley Reed and Gloria and Birchard Church as well as several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Beverly was predeceased by her mother, Verna (Seavey) Hayward; father, Donald Hayward Sr.; sister, Sheila (Hayward) Monroe; and sister, Carol (Hayward) Fickett.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Kim and Cheryle, and her childhood friends, Faye (her quilting partner) and Judy and her daughter-in-law Laurie who has always been there for her. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who diligently worked to maintain her quality of life.

Beverly loved her family more than anything, marrying her high school sweetheart Michael in June 1972 then having her children Crystal and Christopher. Her family was the light of her life. She was a dedicated volunteer, and coach to her children’s sports teams. She was an active participant in the MS Society, working on the board as well as raising thousands of dollars to give to them. She even met her goal of raising $2100 for this year’s walk before she passed. Beverly has a work history that included working at Stinson’s and Wyman’s factories then obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Chapman University and became a teacher to many students in several schools over the years. She also worked in customer service and management in several places, with her final career being at the Bluenose Inn in Bar Harbor. Because Michael was in the Air Force, they lived in Maine, California, Okinawa, and Michigan so she touched many lives. They were able to return to Maine to visit their family and she stayed close to her roots, and they finally moved back and built a house in 1994, where she lived until her death. Beverly had a way of making each person feel special and important. The Lord’s angels took her to heaven and left each of us with our precious memories and special moments of her life.

In honor of Beverly, memorial contributions can be made to the MS Society PO Box 4527 New York NY 10163.

There will be a private burial held at Westbay Cemetery in Gouldsboro ME. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes in Ellsworth, ME. (Bangor Daily News 5/21/2016)
