He was probably the son of Count Giselbert II of Maasgau. (Reginar--or Regnier, Rainier, or Reinier--was born about A.D. 850.) He married twice; one of Reginar's sons was Duke Gilbert of Lorraine; another followed his father in Lorraine as Reginar II. He and his wife Alberada are the 19-X great-grandparents of King Henry VIII of England:
