After college she worked at the Cleveland Clinc in the neurology departments doing social work assisting a prominent brain surgeon. She also was a volunteer Girl Scout and the Boy Scouts.
Joan was a member of First United Methodist Church Mansfield, She taught Sunday School and was a member of Sarah Circle.
She held an honorary degree from and was a member of American Association of University Women. Joan served as one of the founders of the AAUW's annual book sale.
She was also a member of Mansfiel Womens Garden Club and Kingwood Herb Society.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Richard) White of Maryville, Tn.; two sons John (Gayle) Crahen of Indianapolis, In., and Robert (Mariah) Crahen of Shelby; four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild.
