OBITUARY
L. Thomas Wilburn, Jr., age 87 of Montgomery, Ohio passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015. Tom, born December 20, 1928 in Pocahontas, Va, was proceeded in death by his parents, Linnie T. and Mary (Suppee) Wilburn, Sr.; his sisters, Irene Kearney, Elizabeth (Bet) Laxton and Roma Hedrick; his brother, Woodrow Wilburn; and his son, Thomas Kevin Wilburn. He is survived by his loving wife, Sanda Lee (Griffith) Wilburn; his children Annette Morical, Teresa (Joe) Butler, Lauri Ann Sloneker and Casey (LeAnne) Wilburn. His grandchildren – Kristy (Lance) Howard, Emily Morical, Scott Morical, Jamie (Pat) Quigley, Jenny (Dale) Krauser, Ashley Sloneker, Shelby Sloneker, and Caleb Wilburn; and his 17 great-grandchildren.

Wilburn, a graduate of Virginia Tech (then Virginia Polytechnic Institute) moved from Indianapolis, IN, where he served as vice president of Community Hospital, to Cincinnati in 1971. He served as CEO of Bethesda Hospitals for 24 years and president and CEO of TriHealth from its formation in 1995 until his retirement in 1998. He later served as director of the Bethesda Foundation. Extending even beyond his 27-year career at Bethesda and TriHealth, Wilburn served on many national and community boards. In 1977, under Wilburn's direction, Bethesda assumed sole responsibility for Hospice of Cincinnati, one of the first of its kind in the nation. In 1992, Wilburn helped create the Health Collaborative of Greater Cincinnati, one of the first health collaboratives in the United States. He chaired the collaborative through 2006. In 1993 he was elected chairman of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's board, the first ever from the health care sector.

Among the many honors Wilburn received were the recent "Great Living Cincinnatian Award, 2015" and the "Healthcare Hero – Lifetime Achievement Award, 2014".

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 1 at the Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd. at Galbraith from 3 to 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church
