He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1863. During the Civil War he served as acting assistant-surgeon in the navy. He practiced medicine in Kennebunkport, ME, Newton Upper Falls, MA, and came to Millbury, MA in 1870.
He married Sarah P. Leavitt in Maine on Nov. 24, 1864.
