Kenneth was our six pregnancy. We have our 10 year old who was born at 28 weeks gestation,we lost our second child to misscarriage. Our third baby Jeri, passed on when he was born after complications due to my pregnancy. Our fourth pregnancy was an ectopic, and was removed. Then came Kenny, he blessed us on January 19,2005 after a few complicating months of carrying him. He is our miracle baby. He was born at 24 weeks gestation. I had a cerclage done with hime, because they thought I might have an incompetent cervix, well that was not the case. My water broke at 23 weeks and I kept him in until 24 weeks. At exactly 24 weeks I went into full labor. They delived our son by c-section at 4:09am on January 19. He weighed 1 pound 3 ounces. He was so tiny, and barly breathing. They rushed him up to NICU, where he stayed for the remainder of his life. Kenny at a week old had to have a major surgery on his intestines due to NEC. They removed a foot of his intestines. He was on a heart monitor,as well as may other monitior. He had to be put on a special ventilator in which he never got off of. Little Kenny went through so much. He was diagnosed with Kidney failure because of the lack of nutrition, and because of the meds they had him on made his liver fail. Kenny was more than likely blind, and possibly deaf. They said he would more than likely end up with CP. Kenny was never able to take milk from my breast as he never was able to drink from a bottle. It took a few months before we could hold him, all we could do is touch him gently through the incubator windows. Kenny opened his eyes when he was 10 days old. I remember everyday going in and asking if he had opened his eyes yet. Then one day I walked in and started looking into those sweet blue eyes ( in which he had just opened), and crying and wondering why my baby? Well after this Kenny had many infections, he had a blood infection, as well as a yeast infection. The yeast infection caused our son to swell up, and gain weight rapidly. He could not recover from this. His skin started tearing and he was in so much pain. Our son's nurse Rhonda told me she had a dream that Jerimiah ( our other son that passed on ) was playing in white socks and calling out Kenny come on and play with me. He had two broken bones in his arm due to the lack of nutrition he got osteopenia ( like osteoperosis) but in a baby. So anything we did with his was very limited at this point because just the blood presure cuff could break his arm, or leg or where ever they used it at. At this point we knew our son could not live like this. So, we called up the family I wanted there and we took him off life support. The Doctor placed my family and I in a room and brought our son to us. He looked so peacefull off the monitors. He was placed in my arms where he peacefully took his last breath in mommys' arms.He lived a short 4 months, and will always be rembered. We miss him dearly, but we nw he is in a far better place and he will never suffer again. And we wish he never would of had to suffer.
