He was a walking miracle for beating the odds for four years. He was a big fan of NASCAR and Kentucky Wildcat Basketball. He spent most of his time with close friends playing games in his “man cave”. He loved to fish, sing and listen to music. Danny was a drag racer, which began as a child with his father. He continued his drag racing career throughout his adult life, winning the 2009 bracket and two pro championships at the US 60 Raceway. Drag racing and NASCAR was his passion. Danny loved singing karaoke with his wife, wearing funny masks and was her best friend. He also loved his dog, Bailey, who he rescued at the beginning of his cancer battle. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. Danny was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Axton, his nephew Jeremy Axton and a niece, Lori Axton.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Kathy Axton, together for 24 years; a daughter, Mendy (Todd) Ray; two step daughters, Kellie (Scott) Wathen and Kristy (Brad) Robertson Bell;8 grandchildren, Heather Poole, Danielle Ray, Jaycee Moad, Zayne Ray, Sydney and Dalton Robertson, Karlie and Linken Wathen; two great grandchildren, Keeleigh and Stephen Poole, Jr. and one bundle of joy coming in June; 3 brothers, Timothy (Vickie) Axton, Mike (Margie) Axton and Ronnie Axton.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville, with burial following in Serenity Hills with full military honors.
