June, age 90, of Wharton passed away Thursday afternoon, May 26, 2016 at an assisted living center in Wharton following a short illness. She was born on August 28, 1925 in Eastgate, Texas a daughter of the late Dozier Cleveland Benton and Dora Olive Deweese Benton. June was raised in the Eastgate area and graduated from Dayton High School. She married Vernon Hollingsworth on May 30, 1942 in Dayton. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2006. She enjoyed working as a secretary for Wharton ISD schools for many years. June and Vernon were active in square dancing, enjoyed camping, traveling with good friends, J.D. and Lucille DuBose, and fishing. She loved to garden, and her yard was always blooming with beautiful flowers. She was also active in her church, First Baptist Church of Wharton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Leonard Benton, Alma Lee Bowles, Esther Reding and Valda Benton, granddaughter, Sara Krenek, daughter in law, Sherry Hollingsworth, and son in law, Wendel Gilmore. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at noon with funeral services to begin at 2 pm at First Baptist Church in Wharton with Bro. Tony Wishert officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Hollingsworth, Brian Gilmore, Alan Krenek, Matt Thigpen, Merrick Kelley and Kevin Gilmore, with Jerry Allen, Eldon Benton, Don Fowler, Wilbur Dugat, Lane Johnston, Dan Nelsen and John Reding serving as honorary pallbearers. June is survived by her daughters, Sharon Krenek and husband Mickey of Tomball and Velda Gilmore of Burnet, son, Larry Hollingsworth and wife, Glenda of Wharton, grandchildren, Brian Gilmore, Amy Hollingsworth Thigpen, Alan Krenek, Andy Hollingsworth, and Lisa Krenek Kelley, great grandchildren, Madison Bell, Kayli Krenek, Austin Krenek, Reid Kelley, Lauren Krenek, Connor Thigpen, Carley Kelley, Gatlin Gilmore, Lucas Hollingsworth and Noah Hollingsworth, good friend, Dorothy Beck as well as many other loving family members and friends.
