He was born September 2, 1920 in Medley's Neck, MD to the late George and Jane Cutch Curtis. Mr. Curtis attended public schools in St. Mary's County. He was baptized at a very early age and remained a life long member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, MD. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Susie Mae Wilson on October 19, 1941 at St. Aloysius Church and they enjoyed 64 years together. In mid 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the U.S.S. Reina Mercedes and the U.S.S. Craig. He was a long standing member of the American Legion Post #197 in Lexington Park, MD. He was a retired federal government employee of the Patuxent Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD.
Robert was a devoted husband to Susie and a loving father to the late Joseph Paul Curtis and Susie Cecilia Vann and loving grandfather to the late Jerome Mason, John Louis Robinson and Anthony "Tony" Frederick. He is survived by two daughters, Jean Robinson of Oxon Hill, MD, Essie Shorter of Temple Hills, MD, three sons, John Frederick of Leonardtown, MD, George Curtis of Upper Marlboro, MD, Robert Curtis, Jr. of Bowie, MD, one son-in-law, Robert Robinson, one daughter-in- law, Ann Curtis and a sister-in-law, Estelle Smallwood. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Mary Louise Evans and brothers, John Louis, Joseph Albert "Woo", Paul Walter, Perrin and Charles. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren, Johnny, Angie, Crystal, Harry, Selina (Steve), Anthony (Amy), George (Verda), Tonia, Maurice (Sha), Lee, Leroy, Felicia, Paul, George (Alexis) and twenty three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and dear friends.
