Rosary for Jacob Benkert, 89, of 1202 Exposition Blvd., early day band musician in this area, will be recited at 8 p.m. today in Edwards Bros.' Colonial Chapel. Requiem Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. Benkert died Wednesday. He served in the Spanish-American War, came to California in 1906 and for many years was the cornet player of the Sawtelle Band and of the Santa Monica Elks Lodge No. 906 brass band. He leaves his widow Elizabeth; four daughters, Mrs. Claude F. Spaeth, Mrs. Fred O. Reed, Mrs. John R. Lewis and Mrs. Pruette H. Green; three sons, George J, Richard J. and Edward F. Benkert; 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Los Angeles.
