Elmer Gudgel
William Elmer Gudgel, 84 of Hull, died at 8:32 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 1981, in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Hannibal. He was born November 4, 1896, a son of David and Ellen Smith Gudgel. He married Lucy Wagy July, 1920, in Hannibal. She survives.
Mr. Gudgel was a member of the Hull United Methodist Church. He was the last [oldest] surviving graduate of Hull's four year high school, He was interested in politics and served many years as councilman on the Hull townboard. Mr. Gudgel was supervisor of the town water system and parks and was active in township government having been elected as assessor for 32 years. He served many years as Pike County Committeeman. He was employed as state grain inspector at Bunge Corporation in East Hannibal for seven years, retiring last fall at the age of 83. Mr Gudgel was a member of the Hull Lions Club.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Marvin L. of Hull and Maurice E. of Keokuk, Ia., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services were held to day (Wednesday), Mar. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Hull United Methodist Church with Rev. Kay Harm officiating. Burial was in Akers Chapel Cemetery near Hull. Clark Funeral Home of Hannibal was in charge of arrangements.
