Perry Addison Wood was born on February 21, 1923 in Argyle, Texas. He is the son of Perry and Clela (Lynch) Wood.

Perry attended Argyle high school and graduated in 1940. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947 from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas.

On May 7, 1946, Perry married Lorraine Catherine Ritz in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa. He met Lorraine while he was a World War II lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in Alaska and Lorraine was a government clerk there.

Perry was a meteorologist at the National Severe Local Storm Forecast (SELS) center in Kansas City, Missouri. He received national attention when he forecasted the Palm Sunday tornado on April 13,1965, for a 6-state area northeast of Missouri. He was awarded a Department of Commerce silver medal "for service of unusual value" in tornado warning work.

Perry enjoyed bird hunting with his dog Pinto. Also fishing on numerous trips to the Colorado Rockies.

Perry and Lorraine were blessed with four children: Perry John, Kay Lorraine, Randall Lee, and Andrea Jean.

They also have five grandchildren:
Alissa, Heather, Erin, Jessica and TC.
