Leona Ruth Dunning, 88, died on February 1, 1995 at her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho after an extended illness.
Leona was born on December 14, 1906 in Prosser, Washington to Herman Delbert and Flossie Melissa Sloppy. She attended schools in Prosser, Washington. In 1924 she moved with her parents to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where she continued her education at the Bonners Ferry High School.
On March 20, 1926 she married Bryan Dunning. In 1942 Leona went to work for the J.C. Penney Co. in Bonners Ferry. She continued working for 21 years retiring to stay at home late in 1963. She resided until her death at her South Hill home in Bonners Ferry.
Leona was an active member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She was also active in the Pythian Sisters and Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles, bird hunting (especially grouse), bridge club, and volunteered at the hospital as well as many other places.
Her greatest love was the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Leona is survived by two sons, Donald B. Dunning and wife, Jean of Bonners Ferry, ID, William H. Dunning and wife, Elinor of Enumclaw, WA; daughter, Lois Ann Meddock of Portland, OR; 11 grandchildren, Mark Dunning, Terri Truesdell, Christy Jensen, Donald Dunning, Patty Dunning, Debra Soard, Steven Dunning, William Dunning, Keith Dunning, Melissa Larson, Scott Meddock; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
