Sylvia Henrietta Sherertz, daughter of Andrew and Henrietta Mintken Hansen, was born January 29, 1920, in Fremont, NE. She departed this life October 25, 2006, in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, MO, at the age of eighty-six years. On June 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to George David Sherertz and to this union two sons and a daughter were born.
Sylvia was born and raised in Fremont, NE, and moved to San Diego, CA, where she met and married George. While living there, they both worked at the Convair Aircraft Defense Plant before moving to the farm near Diggins, MO in 1944, where they lovingly raised their three children. She worked alongside George, milking cows daily for over forty years, riding horses, working fields, planting and harvesting large vegetable gardens, and raising hogs. She especially enjoyed receiving mail order baby chicks.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 11, 1992; a son, Jan Sherertz; a daughter, Jane Thieman; a sister, Treva Hansen; and two brothers, Elwood Hansen and Lloyd Hansen.
Sylvia is survived by a son, David Sherertz and his wife, Janice, of Seymour, MO; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services are October 31, 2006, in the Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins, MO, with Pastor Dana Wilke officiating. Burial in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, MO.
