Henry French Sr. was born March 12, 1755 most likely in Frederick Co. Virginia. He married Elizabeth Ersom (b. November 30, 1755) around 1770. Henry and Elizabeth moved from Frederick Co, to Shenandoah Co. Virginia where their first child was born. They moved west to Kentucky, along the fertile lands of the Ohio River where the family lived in the Harrodsburg area. Henry was 18 years old when he migrated to Mercer County, Kentucky, in about 1773. He received a land grant of 10,000 acres for being a gunsmith. Henry volunteered in the Revolutionary War at age 23. He was in the Military Revolutionary War with George Rogers Clark, Illinois Regiment, Virginia State Troop. He was also in the Battle of Blue Licks with Daniel Boone. It was the last battle of the Revolutionary War. Henry was a farmer with horses and cattle, and a gunsmith and blacksmith. In April, 1779 Henry French was appointed trustee of the newly-established city of Louisville, Kentucky.
