Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Long Branch Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Revs. Avery Brown and Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial was in Franklin Cemetery, Dillsboro.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. She worked at Sylco Corporation. She was a daughter of the late Cance Carnes and Lottie Gibson Carnes.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Julius Burton Hensley; one son who died in infancy, Burton Hensley Jr.; one daughter who died in infancy, Wilma Hensley; two brothers, Elbert Carnes and Cance Carnes Jr.; and one sister, Eloise Chambers.
Surviving are four daughters, Shirley Ann Hensley Crisp of Dillsboro, Brenda Madge Hensley Douthit of Bryson City, Jolene Hensley Hooper of Sylva and Sam Glenda Hensley McFee of Beaufort, S.C.; three sons, Larry Edward Hensley of Montesano, Wash., Cance Elbert Hensley of Cullowhee and William Michael Hensley of Webster; one brother, Charles Carnes of Dillsboro; two sisters, Etta Lee Freeman of Sylva and Claudia Lark of Rock Hill, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
