UCLA Associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. His areas of interest included computational structural and solid mechanics, computational biomechanics, and micro/nanomechanics of biological systems.

He earned his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from Westmont College in 1997, his master’s degree in civil engineering at UCLA in 1999 and his Ph.D in mechanical engineering from Caltech in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elise, a fellow graduate of both Westmont and UCLA, and their children, Timothy, 9, and Rosemary, 7.

A vigil was held by the engineering school at the UCLA Court of Sciences. A student vigil was held at Bruin Plaza on campus.
