Coleman, Margaret Sutherland Margaret Sutherland Coleman was born March 23, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Sarah Hall Sutherland and William Anderson Sutherland. She attended public and private secondary schools in Atlanta and then attended Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland for three years. In 1947 she married James E. Coleman, Jr. and finished her education at the University of Virginia obtaining a degree in education while he obtained his law degree. She also worked with handicapped and disadvantaged children and taught first grade while in Charlottesville, Virginia. After graduating from law school, Jim was called back into military service during the Korean War after serving in War World II. They resided in Atlanta, Georgia until the war ended. While in Atlanta, their first child was born. In 1953, they moved to Dallas, Texas for Jim to start practicing law. Margaret had three more children after moving to Texas. Margaret was president of the Bradfield PTA and president of the Village Review Club. She was a member of the Junior League of Dallas, The Garden Study Club, and Monday Mornings. She also published several books including Pandamonium and Monday Morning, a book of poems. Margaret loved foreign travel but her favorite destination was their property in Oklahoma in the Kiamichi Wilderness. When Jim and Margaret first started spending time on their property, there was no running water or heating or air conditioning. When asked how they handled these inconveniences, she said they became insignificant because of the rural beauty in the daytime and star-filled sky at night. "This is our laughing place." Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Strong. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, and their three children, Hank and his wife Janie, Margaret and her husband Lester Keliher, and Jim III and his wife Candace, and also their grandchildren Katie, Margaret, Sarah Jane, Joseph, Jim IV, and Alexander and by her sister, Sarah Stoner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at 1:30pm at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the sanctuary with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her name to Parkinson's Voice Project (500 N Coit Road, Suite 2085 Richardson, Texas 75080)
