Ernest Lucas, retired from the U. S. Navy in 1947. He came to Michigan and bought a house in Rochester. On May 7, 1948, he started back to Kentucky to move his mother and father to Michigan.

At Monroe, Michigan he was involved in a car accident and was killed. His brother Gus Lucas, Walker Whisman and Ray Thomas were in the car with him. Gus and Walker were severely injured.

Ernest was taken home to Canyon Falls where he was the first burial in this cemetery located in the Lucas Hollow, Lee County, Kentucky.
