Maxine was called to her eternal rest on Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2016, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn.
Maxine Delaine Berhow was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Swea City, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Lena (Espe) Berhow. She had 13 siblings. She received her education in school in Ledyard, Iowa.
On April 19, 1942, Maxine was united in marriage to Walter "Wally" Cassem at Swea City, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Fairmont, where Maxine was employed for Mallon Egg Company in Fairmont. Along with Wally and her son Jim, they owned and operated the Welcome Hardware Store from 1983 until 1987. They made their home in Welcome.
Wally died on Jan. 15, 2004. Maxine made her home at Goldfinch Estates and then Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont on June 15, 2010.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and it's ladies aid in Welcome. Maxine also was a member of the Welcome American Legion Auxiliary.
Wally and Maxine spent several winters in Harlingen, Texas. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Survivors include: her two sons, Jerry (Terry) Cassem of Northfield, Minn., and James (Cynthia) Cassem of Moreno Valley, Calif.; son-in-law, Robert Gravlin of Apple Valley, Minn.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Amelia Johnson of Forrest City, Iowa, Joan Blay of Watertown, Minn., Florence Berhow of Granada, Minn., Marie Cassem of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Ina Mae Berhow of Rochester, Minn.; brother, Emmet Berhow of Adams, Minn.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Poyzer of Estherville, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
