Hazel Esther Thompson, age 98, passed away in the comforting presence of her two children on June 3, 2016. Hazel was born on Nov. 12, 1917, to William & Bertha Bierbaum in Cincinnati, OH. She graduated from Central High School in Cincinnati in 1935 and went to work at Lever Brothers in Cincinnati, where she met her future husband, Harold Arthur Thompson. They were married Jan. 25, 1940. Hazel was a devoted wife and homemaker, though she did work briefly for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company after she learned to drive at age 55. After retirement, Hazel and Harold moved from Dayton, OH to Ocala, FL, where they enjoyed the warm weather, horse farms, and an active social life. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1994. Hazel will be remembered for her independent spirit, quick wit, love of animals, and loyalty to her friends and family. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Wilbur Bierbaum. Survivors include her two children, William Thompson, of Knoxville, TN; and Linda Thompson, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Christopher Thompson and Kelley Williamson; and her three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, and Brendan Williamson. A Private Memorial Service will be held near Knoxville in July. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or Animal Rescue Friends of Nichols Hills.
