He joined the U.S. Army, serving as a combat gilderman in World War II where he received a Bronze Star Medal for Valor at just 20 years old; a Bronze Arrowhead for the Airborne invasion into Wessel, Germany; a Combat Infantryman's Badge for his service in the Battle of the Bulge; and three Bronze Battle Stars for heroic actions throughout his service during the war.
Returning from the war, he began his business, W.H. Wolford & Sons Masonry and Wolford Investment Company, Inc. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #5, 82nd Airborne Association and
a lifetime member of VFW- Middletown Post.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Foley Wolford; brothers, Joe, Jack and Charlie "Wimp" Wolford.
