Clemmons Means, born 26 January 1800, Randolph County, North Carolina; died 27 December 1879, Nacogdoches County, Texas.

1st Married in 1820, Overton Co, TN: NANCY CARLOCK, born 10 May 1801, North Carolina; died in 1865, Nacogdoches, County, Texas.

Nancy was the daughter of Job and Nancy (McDonald) Carlock.

"Clem" was a noted Cumberland Presbyterian Minister. He came to Overton County, Tennessee with his father and was there in 1820. In 1826 and 1830 he was in Clay County, Missouri. By 1835 he returned to Overton County, Tennessee and remained there until 1850 when he moved to Nacogdoches County, Texas where he helped establish the first Presbyterian Church and was its first minister. He also assisted in founding the first Masonic Lodge in Nacogdoches County. An autobiography of Clemmons is contained in a book entitled "Old Men of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church." Following is the issue of Clemmons and Nancy:
