Alfred P. “Fred” Abdella, 80, of Worcester passed away with his family gathered by his side Friday May 18, 2012 after a brief illness.
Fred was born in Worcester, one of seven children born to the late Anthony and Frieda (Nackley) Abdella. He graduated from Commerce High School, met and married his wife of 58 years Phyllis L. (Rodwell) Abdella. Together they settled in the Hamilton St neighborhood of Worcester and have lived there ever since.
Besides his devoted and beloved wife, Phyllis, Fred is survived by the family he loved so much; His three children, Michael A. Abdella and his partner Nicholas of Northboro, Diane Russell and her husband Anthony, Kimberly M. D’Acri and her long time companion Warren Sweeney all of Worcester; his seven grandchildren who were his world, Jillian, Jenna, Julie, Jake, Anthony, Michael and Christopher; two brothers, Leo J. Abdella in Florida and Raymond F. Abdella of Dedham; his sister Helen Zaremba; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; two brothers Peter “Punjab” and David Abdella and a sister, Cecilia Collins all pre deceased him.
Fred’s employed years consisted of many different occupations he loved. He began as owner operator of Royal Burger on Main St where he was known as “Uncle Freddy”, and for the City of Worcester, in the Code Department as an inspector before retiring with over 25 years of service to the city. He also served as Head of Security during events and games for the New England Patriots in Foxboro many years , the Centrum and PGA Golf tournaments held all over New England.
Fred was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church.
During all his endeavors, Fred’s one love was his family, His wife and children were his bright stars, but his grandchildren were his world. His greatest moments were spend with and around them. He will be sorely missed.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday May 22nd from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday May 23rd from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 341 June St. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 341 June St. Worcester Ma.
