EDWARD O., on March 23, 2010 of Rutledge, PA. Husband of Marta Diane (nee Halsey) McGaughey, father of Steven E. ( Ingrid ) Mc Gaughey, Malia (Brian) Salisbury-Jones, Andrea K. Salisbury and Cynthia Salisbury, grandfather of Kaitlyn E. Jones, Meredith Jones, Bethany K. Jones, Gabriel Mateka, Kathryn McGaughey and Seth E. McGaughey, uncle of Carlynn Ann Barrett and Lea Diane Paul, great uncle of Alex M. Paul, Anthony D. Paul and Lea Diane Barrett, nephew of Donald P. Kochan. Edward O. McGaughey, 72, Former Rutledge Mayor

Edward O. McGaughey, 72, former Rutledge mayor and borough council president, died March 23 at home.

Born in Texarkana, Texas, Mr. McGaughey resided in Rutledge for the past 70 years.

He attended the Rutledge Institute, Swarthmore High School and Widener University and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1958-1965.

Mr. McGaughey was a Delaware County constable from 1968-1973 and served on Rutledge Borough Council, including two terms as president from 1970-1977. He the served two terms as mayor of the borough, from 1977-1985, before resigning for another stint as council president.

He was elected Republican committeeman in 1990 and was a member of the Delaware County Association of Boroughs.

Mr. McGaughey was employed by Philadelphia Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1990, he sold real estate for Carr Real Estate in Folsom, Ridley Township.

Mr. McGaughey was a registered PIAA softball umpire. Affiliated with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of Pennsylvania since 1978, he was appointed youth commissioner for ASA in 1982. The following year, he was elected Central Atlantic Junior Olympic commissioner.

Mr. McGaughey was the softball adviser or Pennsylvania Special Olympics from 1989-1994. In 1997, he was inducted to the ASA of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.

Mr. McGaughey was also a member of F&AM Prospect Lodge in Prospect Park, The Chapel of the Four Chaplains and the
PECO Quarter Century Club.

He was a devoted husband father and grandfather.

Mr. McGaughey was the son of the Late Edward O. and Marian Hartley McGaughey.

Survivors: Marta Diane Halsey McGaughey; son, Steven E. McGaughey of Stone Mountain, GA; daughters Malia Salisbury Jones of Chadds Ford, Andrea K. Salisbury of Jupiter, FL. Cynthia Salisbury of Ridley Park; six grandchildren.

Service: A celebration of Mr. McGaughey's life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Rutledge Community Center, 212 Unity Terrace, Rutledge.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Rutledge Girl's Club, c/o Kevin Cunningham, 20 Rutledge Ave.,Rutledge, PA 19070
