Reverend Skelton Coleman. On Thursday night, January 6, 1910, death entered the home near Henry, VA, and claimed as its victim Reverend Skelton Coleman, aged 80 years, and bore his soul to the city where there is no suffering or pain. He had spent his life in the ministry and was a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Providence. His death was due to stomach trouble, with which he had been afflicted for some time. He bore his sufferings with fortitude and patience, leaving this world with the full realization that he was reaching the Golden City. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife (who was Mrs. Andrew Waid at the time of her marriage to Mr. Coleman) and 7 children by his first wife, namely, Messrs William [L.], Watt [Waddey J.], Emmet G., and Marshall Coleman, and Mesdames [Henry] Fountain Goode [Emma Coleman], Calvin Martin and Leeanna Waid. His tenderheartedness, sympathy for the suffering and his way in general was such as becomes a child of God, and we are confident that he is at rest with our Saviour. It is hard to give up our friend in death, but some we hope to be with them and understand. To the Bereaved widow who loved him dearly and who will miss him more than others, and to the bereaved children, we extend our sympathy. The funeral was conducted by Reverend John W. Waid, who spoke very comfortingly to the bereaved family. The remains were laid to rest at the Providence church in the presence of a large concourse of friends, by the side of loved ones who had preceded him to the grave.
